Dover Street Market for Sotheby’s jewellery
Dover Street Market has been curating a selection of treasures for the Sotheby’s sale on 25 September 2019: sought-after yet wearable jewellery, also mixed with contemporary design, all in the Rei Kawakubo store and among Sammy Slabbinck’s works of art.
Slabbinck’s collages thus offer a new perspective on some treasures that could risk going unnoticed in Sotheby’s most classic standard displays.
And so, a micro-mosaic brooch featuring St. Peter’s Square and the Basilica, made around 1830, is examined by a painter with a canvas.
The treasures also include a large 19th-century cameo depicting Alexander the Great mounted on a gold, 20th-century ring and other vintage items chosen in a spectacular way that seem to be courageous in such a setting as Dover Street Market, such as one of today’s most coveted vintage watches among millennials, a Tubogas Bvlgari with a square dial.
And then there is a 1980s Celtica bracelet by Bvlgari, a panther laying on a branch created by Van Cleef & Arpels.
This exhibition is for the fortunate few and only lasted until early September at the 160 Lexington Avenue store.
