“Once upon a time… in Hollywood”: jewellery in the film
Margot Robbie, Leonardo Di Caprio and Brad Pitt wear fantastic 1960s accessories in Quentin Tarantino’s new film “Once upon a time... in Hollywood”, set during that decade, proving how famous the jewellery in that period was and how it has become so iconic for today’s design and fashion.
The items chosen for the actors by costume designer Arianne Phillips are not all vintage but they perfectly recreate and capture the mood of the film.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s star status is immediately established by an audacious ring on his little finger depicting a lion’s head and which earns a close-up in the first scene when the actor grabs a drink in the historical Hollywood haunt, The Musso and Frank Grill.
DiCaprio also wears a bronze medallion necklace modelled in Steve McQueen style and, in the film, the medallion appears to have a pyramid-shaped zodiac symbol and an R standing for the name of DiCaprio’s character, Rick Dalton.
Brad Pitt is a jewellery-lover in real life and, in the film, flaunts a woven leather bracelet that perfectly fits his T-shirt, moccasins and jeans look.
The wrist watch he wears throughout the film is a 1970s, gold automatic Bullhead Citizen 8110A with the case mounted on a wide leather strap.
And Margot Robbie? In the ‘60s, actress Sharon Tate was a style icon thanks to her look which included fabulous mini and maxi dresses, sunglasses and fantastic accessories. And so, Phillips has magnificently recreated the star’s style for Robbie’s character. When it came to jewellery, Tate never wore large and valuable items in real life and her jewellery items were wonderful costume layers. Some of the items Margot wears in the film were lent by Sharon Tate’s sister Debra.
